SAN JOSÉ, Calif., September 28, 2022 — Boviet Solar Technology Co. Ltd. (“Boviet Solar” or “the Company”), a leading solar energy technology company specializing in advanced monocrystalline PV cells and premium Gamma Series™ Monofacial and Vega Series™ Bifacial PV modules, proudly announces its participation in a Solar Builder Magazine Project of the Year Award–nominated project — Graphite Solar in Wellington, Utah — recognized by Solar Builder Magazine for its large-scale clean-energy deployment, workforce investment, and meaningful community engagement in a historically fossil-fuel-dependent region.
The project demonstrates how utility-scale solar can support economic transition, local workforce development, and long-term community value while delivering reliable renewable energy.
Project Overview
Graphite Solar Project
Location: Wellington, Utah (Carbon County)
System Size: 104 MWdc
Project Partners
Located in Carbon County, a region historically defined by coal mining and fossil-fuel generation, Graphite Solar represents a significant milestone in the area’s clean-energy transition. The county once housed Utah’s oldest coal-fired power plant, which was retired in 2015. Today, Graphite Solar delivers renewable electricity to the Meta (formerly Facebook) data center in nearby Eagle Mountain.
Graphite Solar began delivering community benefits even before reaching commercial operation. Project partners collaborated with Utah State University Eastern to establish the Local First Scholarship, a $75,000 program supporting students who reside in the county and wish to remain local while pursuing their education and career goals. The scholarship is the first in a planned series aimed at helping rural communities address long-term workforce needs.
During construction, approximately 80% of available resources were sourced locally, reinforcing the project’s commitment to regional economic development. The project involved installation of 1.5 miles of transmission lines, deployment of 257,700 solar modules, and supported approximately 273,800 hours of construction labor, generating substantial employment and economic activity in the region.
“This Project of the Year nomination highlights how utility-scale solar can play a meaningful role in economic transition and community investment,” said Songul Atacan, Head of Global Brand and Marketing at Boviet Solar. “Graphite Solar demonstrates that clean-energy projects can deliver far more than electricity — they can support education, workforce development, and long-term resilience in communities historically tied to fossil fuels. At Boviet Solar, we are proud to support projects like this with reliable, high-performance PV modules.”
Boviet Solar’s PV modules were selected for their performance, durability, and long-term reliability, supporting consistent energy production in a large-scale utility application. The Solar Builder Project of the Year Award nomination underscores how strong partnerships, thoughtful community engagement, and proven solar technology can deliver measurable environmental, economic, and social impact at scale.
