BOVIET SOLAR CELEBRATES SOLAR BUILDER PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARD NOMINATION FOR EDUCATIONAL SOLAR PROJECT
SAN JOSÉ, Calif., September 10, 2018 — Boviet Solar Technology Co. Ltd. Inspired in part by Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical Laudato si’, which calls for the transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy, Cistercian Preparatory School pursued solar as both a moral and practical commitment. The school’s administration, which includes monks and priests serving the Cistercian order, views environmental stewardship as an integral part of its Christian mission.
At the same time, school leaders recognized solar energy as a responsible financial decision. By reducing long-term energy costs, the project supports efforts to limit tuition increases and redirect savings toward essential priorities such as teacher salaries and educational programs.
Developed by Sunfinity Renewable Energy, the initial system consists of 464 solar panels installed across two campus buildings. The installation was completed in spring 2018 while school was in session, without disrupting academic activities—a key consideration for the school. Administrators have also expressed interest in expanding the solar system in the future as part of the school’s ongoing sustainability strategy.
