SAN JOSÉ, Calif., September 23, 2019 — Boviet Solar Technology Co. Ltd. (“Boviet Solar” or “the Company”), a leading solar energy technology company specializing in advanced monocrystalline PV cells and premium Gamma Series™ Monofacial and Vega Series™ Bifacial PV modules, proudly announces its participation in a Solar Builder Magazine Project of the Year Award–nominated project — the Maycroft Resiliency Center in Washington, D.C., recognized by Solar Builder Magazine for its first-of-its-kind integration of solar and battery storage to support affordable housing residents and community resilience.
The project demonstrates how solar-plus-storage solutions can deliver critical energy security, social equity, and community support during grid outages, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Project Overview
Maycroft Resiliency Center
Location: Washington, D.C.
System Size: 62.4 kW solar / 56 kWh battery storage
Completion Date: July 2019
Project Partners
Launched by Jubilee Housing and PEPCO, in partnership with New Partners Community Solar and the District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment, the Maycroft Resiliency Center represents Washington, D.C.’s first affordable-housing resiliency center powered by solar and battery storage.
Located at the Maycroft Apartments, the rooftop solar array and battery system power an on-site resiliency center and community space for up to three days during grid outages, providing refrigeration for medications and perishables, lighting, outlets for charging mobile phones and communication devices, and access to television and emergency information.
Beyond emergency resilience, the project extends long-term benefits through a community solar program, with 100 of Jubilee Housing’s most rent-burdened households participating and gaining access to clean-energy savings. The system represents a first-of-its-kind effort in the District to directly channel the benefits of solar-plus-storage to low-income housing residents.
“This Project of the Year nomination highlights how solar and storage can serve as critical community infrastructure, delivering resilience, equity, and peace of mind to residents who need it most,” said Songul Atacan, Head of Global Brand and Marketing at Boviet Solar. “At Boviet Solar, we are proud to support projects like the Maycroft Resiliency Center that use reliable solar technology to strengthen communities, protect vulnerable populations, and advance inclusive clean-energy solutions.”
Boviet Solar’s PV modules were selected for their performance, durability, and long-term reliability, supporting dependable energy production in a mission-critical residential resilience application. The Solar Builder Project of the Year Award nomination underscores how thoughtful system design, strong partnerships, and proven solar technology can deliver meaningful social impact alongside clean energy generation.
